On September 15th, thousands of the world’s finest SEO professionals, search marketers and self-proclaimed ‘digital geeks’ descended on the Brighton Centre for Europe’s biggest search conference - Brighton SEO.

This was the third-time that Genesis’ digital team attended the bi-annual event, which has seen rapid growth in both size and popularity since its humble beginnings above a pub six years ago.

 

The event programme included talks by some of the best speakers in the industry and we attended some thought provoking sessions and practical workshops covering topics such as paid search, remarketing, excel formulas and technical SEO.

 

Here are our top three take-aways from this September’s Brighton SEO:

 

  1. Bridging the gap

Making sure your SEO, PPC and content are working effectively together is top of our list. It’s important that the activities of all the different teams under the communications umbrella complement each other and that any gap between them is bridged. At Genesis we are proud to have a fully-integrated PR and digital team who work closely together to provide clients with a joined-up approach.

 

  1. Build a website for Google in mind

If you wanted a house for 200 people, you’d build a new one. You wouldn’t take a two-bed house and add onto it. Why do we do that to websites and expect Google to understand it? At Genesis we build our clients’ websites with the users AND Google in mind, custom building CMS systems designed for ease of use.

 

  1. Audience insights from ‘Answer the Public’

Enter a keyword into the ‘Answer the Public’ website and it will show you the most popular searches that relate to that particular keyword. This is one of the many fantastic tools we use at Genesis that can assist with keyword and content research. It is great for idea generation as well as insight into what’s currently trending.

 

Overall, we had another brilliant year at Brighton SEO and came away with some valuable knowledge and tips – we look forward to the next one in April!
