Careers Fair Invites Students to Explore Creative Media Industries in Suffolk
Creative students in Suffolk are invited to attend this year’s #MediaDiscovery careers fair, with opportunities to discover local career opportunities and meet employers in the creative and media industries. Hosted by Suffolk-based PR and digital agency Genesis, in partnership with the University of Suffolk, #MediaDiscovery is open to all local sixth-form and University students on Wednesday, March 14, from 1pm to 3.30pm at the University of Suffolk Waterfront Building.
#MediaDiscovery, now in its third year, has attracted a number of local employers who will showcase the exciting range of creative jobs available in Suffolk including PR, graphic design, event management, photography, social media and film production. A new addition to this year’s event is Speed Networking, which will be a fun and interactive way for students to spend a short amount of time engaging with employers and asking questions about their career journeys.
Dr Suzanne Nolan, University of Suffolk Business School Lecturer, is working with Genesis PR on the #MediaDiscovery careers fair. Suzanne said: “#MediaDiscovery is an engaging and inspiring event that aims to raise aspirations for students of all ages in Suffolk. It’s a fantastic chance for students to speak to business professionals in diverse areas, gaining not only the knowledge about their industries, but greater confidence to ask questions and develop curiosity.”
This year #MediaDiscovery coincides with the University of Suffolk’s Arts and Humanities Taster Day, run from 9.30am on 14 March, where students can find out about creative degree opportunities before meeting local employers.
Genesis PR are hosting #MediaDiscovery as part of the agency’s pro-bono community commitment. University of Suffolk Event Management student Amy Nott has been working with Genesis PR to help plan and organise the event this year.
Genesis PR director Penny Arbuthnot, said: “We are thrilled to once again host #MediaDiscovery with the University of Suffolk to help raise awareness of the huge variety of jobs available in the PR, media and creative industries here in Suffolk and the East of England. We hope the event demonstrates that students don’t have to go to the big cities to find career success, by showcasing a wide range of creative employment opportunities locally.”
The #MediaDiscovery careers fair will be held in the ground-floor foyer area of the University of Suffolk Waterfront Building on Wednesday, March 14, from 1pm to 1.45pm followed by Speed Networking sessions on the first floor of the Waterfront Building from 2pm to 3.30pm. The event will directly follow the University’s Arts and Humanities Taster Day, from 9.30am, which students can also book to attend. Entry is free and is open to all local students aged 16 and above.
