We make sure that PR and social media efforts also contribute to your SEO, for example by building links back to your website and ensuring that your online posts and press releases are properly optimised for your target keywords.
Strategic SEO the Genesis Way
Our approach to SEO is targeted and strategic. We achieve this through three key strands of activity: keyword research, site audits and ongoing monitoring and adjustment through our monthly consultancy service.
First, we conduct thorough keyword research – not just going for the obvious terms that all your competitors will be going after too, but thinking more creatively to find a balance of phrases – some which will be high traffic generators which we can rank for over time, and others which can be ranked for more quickly.
Next, we take an in-depth look at your current website to find out what's currently working and where improvements can be made. We examine a raft of metrics including wordcount, current use of keywords, use of meta data and so on, for your homepage and other key landing pages. We'll look at your backlinks – how many there are, where they are coming from and the quality of those sites linking to you. And we'll carry out a technical audit, looking for any issues which could be holding back your rankings, such as not being mobile-friendly, broken links, 404 errors and so on.
As well as your main website, we also examine your current social media activity (which is used by some search engines to influence rankings). We'll take a thorough look at which channels you are on and how much activity there is currently, including frequency, type and length of posts and number of followers.
If necessary we can then carry out a similar audit of your top competitors' websites, to find out what they are doing the same or differently. As well as showing you how your site compares, this process can generate valuable insights and ideas for your own site, as well as helping to benchmark where you want to be.
Monthly Consultancy Service
Once we have an agreed set of target keywords and a clear idea of what issues need to be addressed, we start taking action to make the required SEO changes. We do this via our monthly consultancy service which involves carrying out a programme of activities to improve the SEO of your site. This includes 4 key areas of activity:
- Addressing issues identified in the audit – Optimising existing content with agreed keywords, adding or altering metadata and fixing any technical issues found.
- New content development – Writing new content targeting specific keywords, such as articles for your site or blog, or social media posts. Depending on the wider goals of your PR campaign, this might include setting up a blog or creating a new social media channel.
- Link building – Developing a campaign to increase the number of good quality links to your site – and ensuring this links up to your online PR campaign of online articles, press releases, social media posts and so on.
- Monitoring – Monthly reporting of your site's rankings against the agreed keyword list, as a way of measuring progress. This data will also be used to make adjustments to your overall strategy, as required.

The PR campaigns we created in 2013/14 promoted the OFTEC name and what it stands for, and pre-empted the Government’s green announcements with hard-hitting, factual counter-arguments for national media. We worked directly with 40 Ford car dealerships to build their profile and reputation in their local markets. This PR won the ‘Best Automotive Campaign’ at the 2012 CIPR Excellence Awards. The strategy involved a group-wide CSR programme of activities that created news stories that could be replicated easily across all dealerships to generate widespread local coverage. In 12 months we generated 1,161 items of local/regional media with 46.6 million Opportunities to See. 98% of coverage included at least two key messages.

We created and implemented the stakeholder engagement and communications strategy for the launch of NEEDS, a new NHS integrated diabetes service in North East Essex. Commissioned by Suffolk County Council, Live Well Suffolk is the county-wide healthy lifestyles service aimed at reducing smoking prevalence and obesity across the county’s population. A programme of integrated campaigns has included ‘Where’s the sugar monster?’ which engaged 5-11 year-olds and their parents by targeting primary schools. The campaign raised awareness of the hidden dangers of sugar and generated 105 enquiries to Live Well Suffolk’s child weight management service as well as 15 press and radio items.
